My wife decided to build a vacation house in Cebu and she
sent the first remittance.
The location is not the land we bought the year before
last, but where my wife's parents lived.
When I asked my wife why we didn't build a house on the
land we bought, she said the water supply was bad.
The water supply
in the Philippines is notoriously bad, and Japanese people who have built
houses there have installed receiving tanks and use water stored in pumps. So I
told my wife that there would be no problem if we built a receiving tank.
My wife wanted to build a house where her parents lived because a receiving
tank would be too expensive.
My wife has lived here since she was born, so she must be
very attached to the place.
She wants to turn the land he bought into a chicken farm.
By the way, the owner of my wife's family's land is apparently a major landowner in the area.
My wife's family has lived there for many years. I thought we should buy the land and build a house on it, so I asked my brother to talk to the landowner.
The conclusion was that they would sell the land they live on, including the family, if it was all together. The size of the land was unclear, but it was quite large with about eight houses on it. The price is 1million pesos, which is about 2.3 million yen in Japanese yen, so I thought I could buy it right away, but my wife wanted to pay half of the price by herself, so we decided to buy it in two years.
When I am no longer impeded from traveling to the Philippines, I would like to go there to see the area and talk to the landowner before deciding to purchase the property.
The vacation house is a two-story, four-bedroom house of 120 square meters.
It will take one to two years to complete since it will be built on weekends.
In true Filipino style, we'll just relax and wait for the completion.
