I bought a Marantz NR1200 amplifier in December 2019 after my Yamaha AV amp broke.
The speakers were Yamaha NS10MT. However, the low frequency was not enough, so I bought a SW050 subwoofer last November, but when I listened to CDs, the sound localization and resolution were also not good enough.
So I decided to take the plunge and change the speakers.
I had heard that a junior student using the same amp had paired it with DALI's OBERON7 and found it to sound very good, so the OBERON7 was my first choice.
OBERON7 is a floor-type loudspeaker. Since it has a larger enclosure than bookshelf type loudspeakers, it is expected to have a roomy sound including low frequency range.
I thought it would be better to listen to the actual sound at an electronics store before making a purchase decision, but it is true that listening to the sound at an electronics store is quite different from listening to the sound in one's own room.
Therefore, this time, I decided to make my choice based on Youtube.
Youtube video of Ippinkan, an audio/home theater specialty store located in Nihonbashi, which can be called the Akihabara of Osaka, is quite professional.
The website of Ippinkan states, "We strictly test and select the products we sell, and we only sell products that we can recommend from the customer's standpoint (only the best products)," and the YouTube videos are also created with this purpose.
The OBERON 7 is said to have a bright and lively sound. Among the loudspeakers in the same price range, there was a Polk ES60, which I had never heard of, but I heard that Polk is so famous in the U.S. that you can find it in any electronics store. The sound is characterized by a warm and cheerful tone.
At home, we mainly play movies, jazz, and vocals over the speakers. Therefore, warm sound is very attractive. The price is also slightly lower than that of the OBERON7. Therefore, I decided to purchase POLK ES60.
It took some time to open the package because it was a large loudspeaker, but with the help of my wife, I set it up and played the sound.
My first impression was that the sound was full, but it sounded somehow lacking in core.
However, it is a common theory that the true sound of a loudspeaker does not come out until a certain amount of time has passed after it has been played, so I will try changing the setting of the loudspeaker while playing various kinds of music for a while.
In any case, I will be able to spend more time listening to music while enjoying it, rather than just listening to it.
