The price of crude oil, which was just under $75 per barrel at the end of last year, rose to $115 in March, partly due to the war in Ukraine.
The price is supposed to fall from spring to summer, but at the moment it remains high at $110.
The price of gasoline in Japan has also increased by 23 yen to 173 yen per liter compared to the same period last year. The government subsidizes fuel retailers by 35 yen per liter, so the price has only gone up by this amount.
If there were no subsidies, this would be calculated to be about ¥215.
Gasoline prices are also rising in the Philippines, with prices in metropolitan Manila at 90 pesos per liter (225 yen) and even higher in Cebu at 100 pesos (250 yen).
Considering the cost of living in the Philippines, it is outrageously expensive.
In the Japanese sense, the price is about 2,000 yen per liter.
This is apparently why the number of cars driving through the city is decreasing. Jeepney drivers are also trying to avoid running at times and on routes with few passengers because they cannot make a profit.
In the Philippines, many people used grab cars (GRABs) rather than cabs, but many GRABs are now out of business, and it is difficult to find a GRAB even if you try to use one.
Gasoline prices are not likely to go down for a while, so next time you take a cab in the Philippines, be sure to tip a little more.
