I saw a news that Netflix has more than 5 million members in Japan. There were 3 million members last September, so the number has increased by 2 million in the past year, which is an overwhelming number as other online video streaming services, excluding Amazon prime, have about 2 million members.
Netflix has three plans, excluding tax: basic 800 yen, standard 1,200 yen, and premium 1,800 yen, but if everyone were on the 1,200 yen plan, that would be 6 billion yen in monthly sales, or 72 billion yen per year.
My family wants to enjoy high-definition television as much as possible, so we have a premier plan. I used to subscribe to JCOM, but although there were many channels I could watch, the channels I often watched were mostly fixed, and since it wasn't on-demand, I was tied to the airtime, and even though I was paying to watch it, the commercials came on, so I stopped.
With Netflix, not only can I watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it, but I can also watch all the previous seasons of a TV series at once.
Almost every day after dinner, my wife and I watch a lot of Netflix TV series. So far we've finished watching The Flash and the entire season of Green Arrow, and now we're enjoying watching Heartland. We've made it a routine to watch two episodes every day, and last night we watched 29 episodes of the second season, but this series has 13 seasons to go, so I think we'll enjoy it for a while.
Netflix is quite good, but there is one problem. My Filipino wife speaks English, so when we watch English movies and TV shows, we watch them with Japanese subtitles. The problem is that when watching non-English movies, my wife can't understand them with Japanese subtitles. On the other hand, when I watch a movie with English subtitles, my English ability cannot catch up with it. Can't you do something about it?
Well, I guess I just need to improve my English.
