Happy New Year!

The year 2023 has begun.
The weather was clear and the first sunrise was beautiful.

Last night I went to bed at 9 PM as usual.
I have not woken up to celebrate New Year's Eve for more than 10 years.
So it's been a while since the Kohaku Uta Gassen and the New Year's bell.
My wife seemed to be up at the time of New Year's Eve.

Woke up a little later than usual at 4:50 am.
After taking a shower, I changed the heaping salt since it is a full day.

After 6 o'clock, I started to make zoni.
Our zoni is Hakata-style, with round rice cakes, yellowtail, chicken (called "kashiwa" in Hakata), carrots, shiitake mushrooms (made from rehydrated dried shiitake mushrooms), fish cakes and komatsuna (actually katsuona greens, but they are not available in Kanto), and many other ingredients. The broth is soup stock made from dried flying fish

It became like New Year's when we put out the osechi, drank the toso (Japanese red wine) and ate zoni (a kind of stew).

There are many ways to celebrate New Year's, but this year my wife made something interesting.

In the Philippines, it is said that these items are displayed in the house.
Eggs represent prosperity, and money symbolizes wealth. It would be more authentic if they were decorated with 12 kinds of round fruits, but unfortunately, 12 kinds of fruits are not possible in Japan during this season. This is something that can only be done in a tropical country.

I have a part-time job from New Year's Day. Let's do our best again this year.
